    Description

Up for auction a rather Nice 1936-1938 HEDDON No.200 "RELIABLE" 5-1/2 FT., TWO-PIECE "LIGHT ACTION" SPLIT BAMBOO BAIT CASTING ROD WITH NEW BAG. The No.200 was produced from 1933 until the end of production in 1952. Because this example has the tip section equipped with three guides (starting about 1936) and carries the Classic Era rod shaft markings (last used in 1938), we know this was built from 1936-1938. Built on a 15/64th (#1) ferrule in the more desirable "Light" action. Heddon's Cleo Hanley has handwritten "Heddon" diagonally along three flats and "#200" on a single flat above the winding check. The reel seat is stamped "PAT.", for the 1927 patent assigned to Heddon for the screw-locking seat. Built of quality Tonkin cane and comes equipped with crystal agate guides and tip top, nickel silver welted ferrules, exposed winding check, screw-locking "Hold-Tite" reel seat with attached trigger, solid cork tournament grip & fore grip and wound in orange silk tipped in black. I've added a photo of the original listing from Heddon's 1936 catalog. Rod is in about Very Good condition, with crazed and unsettled varnish. A new overcoat is suggested if this rod is to be fished. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. Both sections are the correct length and are reasonably straight. Rod shaft markings are pristine. All wraps are solid and complete. All guides, tip top, ferrules and winding check are very nice. Reel seat works perfectly. Solid cork grip and fore grip remain in very good condition. Put up in a new cloth bag, in excellent condition, with a wooden dowel tip protector. The No.200 was never originally supplied with a tube. All in all, a rather nice example of these pre-war bait casting rods from James Heddon's Sons. To be sold with a very low starting bid and NO RESERVE. Buyer to pay .00 shipping via U.S. Priority Mail, with full insurance and tracking. Thanks for your time and good luck.
