    Description

    The
    Doira
is a common frame drum instrument played in Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and in countries bordering Central Asia.
It has a round mulberry wood frame, metal jingles, a thin translucent head made of goat skin with metal fastners. The sounds are produced by using both hands. One to hold the doira and using the fingers, the other to strike the center of the instrument to produce sharp and striking sounds. (See video demo. Please note that the doira in the video is not the one listed for sale. The video is to demonstrate how it is played and the sounds in makes). The doira is regularly used as a hand percussion instrument and is very much part of folk and popular music cultures. Doiras are also included in modern day ensembles as well as symphony orchestras all over Central Asia. Also, a great collector's item or to use as a decorative piece. In terms of size, this piece is considered to be a medium size doira.
