Description
You are buying a Clean One-Owner! A Classic! (Serial # 724). I've included all the original paper work (Original Owners Manual, the Forat Electronics Linn Midi Retrofit documentation such as Installation/Owner's Manual with schematics plus quick-start User's Manual, Version 2 and 3 Software update data sheets and a few dated advertising items. Sorry, I can't remember what the 33-1/3rd disc is all about. :-)Unit has a new battery. I replaced the 'Clap' chip with an alternate 'Bass' chip. Unit has been stored for some time, hence the volume potentiometer has a slight scratchy sound when adjusted. The last photo (box) is for show only. It's the original carton/packaging container. It is NOT included with this sale.
The Linn Drum LM-2
is a
drum machine
manufactured by
Linn Electronics
between 1982 and 1985. About 5,000 units were sold.
Its high-quality samples, flexibility and affordability made the Linn Drum very popular and
was used on many top recordings throughout the 1980s.
When Linn Electronics closed in 1986,
Forat Electronics
purchased its assets
and offered service, sounds and modifications for the Linn Drum. Note: Since t
he Linn Drum was pre-
MIDI
and used
a
DIN sync
interface, I personally visited Forat Electronics in LA and had then install the
MIDI Retrofit Kit, making it MIDI compatible. I also had Forat install Version 2/3 software updates.
The LinnDrum has fifteen 8-bit 28 kHz ~ 35 kHz digitally
sampled
drum sounds: bass drum, snare, side-stick snare, hi-hat, crash cymbal, ride cymbal, three tom-toms, cabasa, tambourine, high and low congas, cowbell, and hand-claps. The LM-2 provides a
sequencer
for programming rhythm patterns, a built-in mixer and individual output jacks for each sound. The LM-2 has
five external
trigger
inputs, and the option to replace the original sounds with new sounds via EPROM chips. The snare and rimshot can be tuned together and the tom and conga samples can be tuned separately. In addition, the LinnDrum hi-hats permit a decay adjustment, allowing for more versatility.
The LinnDrum sounds were reportedly sampled from real drums played specifically for the machine by Los Angeles drummer Art Wood, a friend of Linn, who played with Linn and musicians including Peter Frampton, Gary Wright, Cher, Tina Turner, Bette Midler and James Brown and more. Famous musicians such as
Prince, George Harrison and many more owned/used the LM-2 on their recording sessions.
