HISTORY
Fishing small streams in the 1960’s light travel rods would be the perfect tool.
Fenwick was the only manufacturer at that time who had a tip over butt ferrule.
All other rods used metal ferrules which affected the action of the rod. Through a business friend, I was invited to tour the Fenwick factory that just moved to Westminster, CA.
My “tour guide” was Phil Clock, President of Fenwick. After viewing the facility, I explained to Phil what I was looking for and why.
We went out to the factory floor by the blank bin, Phil selected several blanks (only amber blanks existed for this new design) and started cutting them to length for the fly rod and the spinning rod. I was more than pleased after testing the action as well as I could in the circumstances. Phil and I continued discussing the advantages of the ferrule system for travel rods and how there were many anglers like me who traveled and wanted to carry their rods in a suitcase.
The next season Fenwick expanded the travel rod line to include several rods both fly and spin; hence the Voyageur series.
My relationship with Fenwick continued and I was an instructor in their east coast fly fishing schools

The wraps look like they did when I received the rod.
I left the patina on the handle.
