South Bend bamboo fly rod, Model #290, 7 1/2', 2/2.
The model number 290 is South Bend designated "dry Fly " action.  South Bend rods were priced to compete in the production rod business.
This rod has the "Comficient Grip" with the Thumb rest indentation. It has a rectangular decal on the rod shaft with model number, length of rod and the recommended line size. This model has a hook keeper and attractive jasper or varigated wraps, all in good shape. The rolled welt drawn ferrules are all tight and nicely functional and the reel seat has a copper colored plastic spacer, the seat is a " Lite-Lock"seat, with chrome-plated brass hardware.  This rod is circa 1950, all sections are full length and straight.
These are underrated fly rods, this one will fish beautifully, it is in very good to excellent and original condition.  The rod bag is completely original, the green fiber tube is very stout and a replacement.
For a 5 or 6 wt line size.
