Description
I recently purchased here in Grand Rapids, MI a rod tube that contained two vintage split cane bamboo rods. A Heddon I believe 5' casting rod and a custom made and signed 8' 6" trout fly rod which was signed Fred B. Kramer. (see my other auctions to see the Heddon Rod).*I have been informed that this rod is a Montague fly rod from the late 30's. The name on the rod
was probably the owner of the rod which was common at the time?
The rod measures 8' 6" and has been found as is. It seems to be in excellent shape for age. It has it's original rod sleeve which has a few tears and the rod tube which both rods were purchased in. The tube seems to be made of a very brittle black plastic? (see pics) material and has a cap which slides off. The lid of the cap has tiny screws holding in the round sections of the tube. It at one time had a leather strap which has broken off.
The rod overall has a nice patina and is signed FRED B. KRAMER.
The extra tip is in a small sleeve which is in a metal tube with screw off cap which is a nice feature. The cork on the rod is a little discolored from age which is expected but overall in great shape. Not sure how much time this rod spent on the water? This would be a fun rod to fish.
The butt section of the rod measures 34.25" the mid section 34.25" and both tips
34.25".
I think this rod will make a nice addition to any vintage fishing collection. I considered keeping this rod being an avid fly-fisherman but I concentrate on collecting folk art fishing collectibles and my wife will kill me if I start collecting rods...
