Vintage 6' 6" 2/2 Chubb / Montague split-bamboo fly rod w/ orig. form case NR

Description

This auction is for a very rarely seen 6' 6" 2/2 Chubb / Montague bamboo fly rod with original wooden canvas covered form case. Unmarked rod is in original condition with original hardware and wraps with several in need of repair. Original tip tops will also need to be replaced before rod is fishable - one missing ring the other partially remaining - see photo. Reel seat is in very good to excellent condition. Cork handle is in good condition with minimal ridging and a small gouge in one ring, minor but so noted - see photo. Hanging ring hook keeper. Red wraps tipped black with signature wraps and full intermediate wraps. Early short Monty rods in full length condition with original case are extremely rare and would make a fantastic addition to any collection. Cane is sound without any damage or issues, rod would definitely be worth properly restoring and taking fishing! Feels like a 3/4 wt. See pictures for full description. Sold as shown.

All sections are straight. Pinned ferrules are still very good - one seems little used despite tip missing guides and almost wonder if the guides weren't lost fairly early in its history with the second tip then getting all the use as although straight it does come out of the ferrule station at a slight angle and its ferrule is a bit more worn - rod with first tip is dead straight. Both tips pop when separated.
Rod has really nice action.
