Vintage Andre Piccard Silver Throat Bb Clarinet, Made In France. Condition is Used.
This clarinet was an estate sale find and is in FANTASTIC condition! I have no idea about the age of this instrument. But, if I had to speculate based on my research, the case design, the instrument's condition and its obscurity, I would say it is possibly from around the 1950s, possibly a little earlier.
I used my own mouthpiece to test it out and it plays very well, considering its age. I just ran a scale up and down in multiple octaves a few times. There is a key on the lower body left side that sticks a bit. Some wear to the finish of the keys as to be expected. The pads and cork look great, but you may wish to change them. No cracks in the body or signs of repair that I could tell. The instrument is possbily made of either wood or hard rubber. I am not certain. Definitely not plastic. The mouthpiece is marked with AAA and nothing else. The 'silver throat' is describing the nickel silver lining in the upper body of the clarinet. See the 4th photo. See the photos for details as they are part of the description. There is a lyre attachment in the case, but no lyre. There is also a tube of cork grease in the case.
This would be a great beginner or intermediate instrument. It could even be for that jazz enthusiast with its silver throat.
