Vintage Conolon Falcon 407 Fiberglass Fly Rod 9' 2pc, Sock, Bass Action

Rare, Late 1940's Narmco Company "Conolon" (Pre Garcia) Falcon 407 "Live Fiber" Fiberglass Fly Rod 9' 2pc, Bass Action with new cloth sock, and 2 large bass bugs/frogs. This early fiberglass fly rod was manufactured by one of the first "post bamboo" fly rod manufacturers in Costa Mesa California. The Narmco Company and the Conolon product lines were acquired by Garcia some time in the 1950s and the Conolon brand has been used consistently on fiberglass fly rods to this day, with products sold by Abu-Garcia. The rod has been reconditioned and looks great.  The rod has a full Wells grip, a blue and metallic down-locking reel seat, and original hook keeper.  The rod comes with a new cloth rod sock, and of course, two large weedless large bass bugs.
Repair and refinishing: The rod looks great for a 70 year old first generation fiberglass fly rod. The rod has had one guide replaced and several wraps professionally redone.  The rod has throughly cleaned and varnish removed from all wraps before brushing several coats of spar varnish on the wraps, and finishing up with a pole-urethane spar varnish top coat.  The reel seat and cork were also cleaned with mild soap and de-natured alcohol.
Performance Testing: I took the rod out the other day for some testing at the park across the street. I guessed that the rod might perform well with a 7wt line, which I actually had ready to go.  I used a WF7F line and had a great time out on the lawn. It's a powerful old school slower action rod that was pretty easy to cast 60-80ft using a double haul.  I think it might load up even better with an 8wt line. I'd like to take this one out on a summer afternoon on the river casting for smallmouths, or streamers, bugs, or muddler minnows on a quiet lake.
This rod has a great "old school" post-bamboo but pre-graphite look and feel about it and it will make an "outstanding" gift that can be fished immediately or added to any vintage fishing tackle collection.
