Description
Here we have a quite rare and desirable Orvisone-piece
bamboo fly rod.
Orvis made this “Superfine” rod at their shop in Manchester, VT in September 1967.
The condition is outstanding, and appears to have been not used or only lightly. Assume it may have been set up and used a couple times, though it looks essentially brand new to me. Please judge the photos for yourself as to the condition.
The Bamboo and cork handle are pristine, clean, and straight; there are of course no rod ferrules, but the rod guides are all correct, original, and in perfect condition.
This rod is a real beauty and I have not ever seen one like it in a long time. As a one piece rod this will present the purest bamboo experience possible, with a smooth action perfect for late summer action on small streams. Just perfect for the most delicate presentation of drys in low clear waters.
The rod markings:
·
Orvis Impregnated
·
“Superfine"
·
HDG (6)
·
1 - 7/8 oz.
·
48208 – serial no.
(HDG is an old-fashioned line weight code, and it means "6 weight," though by our current standards this is more like a 2 or 3 weight. I recommend using the lightest line available with the smallest reel, this is for close, precision work on small creeks.)
The aluminum rod tube label matches the rod. Includes the original tapered rod sleeve as shown.
The rod tube is 73 ½” inches long and 1 ¾” D. The rod tube has numerous dings, scratches, and residue from labels likely from storage over the years.
Please note the reel shown in photo 1 is just a prop for scale and NOT included in the sale.
Thank you,
Dan
