Description
Wright & McGill Granger Aristocrat 9050, 9', 3/2, 5.0 oz., 5wt.; Produced from 1947 until 1952 and packed for immediate shipment to you!!
Wright & McGill bought out the Granger Rod Company in 1946 shortly after the end of WWII. Granger had run out of certain parts for producing rods due to the demand for metals during the war. One of those parts was the reel seats. To get back into production, Wright&Mcgill produced its own reel seats but continued to use ferrules, guides, hook keepers, tiptops, etc from those inventory items available from the Granger inventory. This particular Aristocrat has both a W&M reel seat as well as W&M ferrules. Thus one surmises that this rod was made after 1947, but of course before the end of production in 1952.
Screw type reel seat and ferrules are made from nickel silver. Guides are made of hardened steel and Perfection chromium tiptops. The rod shaft is made of select dark brown Tonkin cane. The rod sock is not original but it fits perfectly. The aluminum tube appears to be original just like the catalog images for the period). The tube has taken some knocks and has done its job protecting this beautiful rod (see photos that include dinks and dings to the tube).
The rod was restored to original specs by Scott Whitman, renowned expert on Granger/Wright & McGill rods in 2018.
Scott replaced the cork grip with new AAA cork half wells grip (plastic wrap still in place) and replaced the wraps with period correct silk windings of the specified colors. The rod has not been fished since the restoration was performed, A real beauty and as fine a fishing instrument for the money as is available!! The rod will last a lifetime and will certainly become a heirloom of distinction.
